ANDYSMANCLUB is a men's suicide prevention charity dedicated to improving men's mental health and ending the stigma surrounding male mental health in the UK. We provide free, peer-to-peer men's mental health support groups across the United Kingdom and online, giving men aged 18 and over a safe, welcoming and judgment-free space to talk openly about life's challenges.
Our mission is simple: to encourage men to open up, support one another and understand that #ITSOKAYTOTALK.
Through the power of conversation, we aim to break down the barriers surrounding men's mental health, challenge outdated stereotypes and help prevent male suicide. About Andy – The Story Behind ANDYSMANCLUB
ANDYSMANCLUB was founded in memory of Andrew Roberts, affectionately known as Andy, who sadly took his own life at the age of 23 in early 2016.
Andy’s family had no indication of the extent of his struggles or that he was experiencing such difficulties with his mental health. Following his death, his family began looking more closely into male suicide and men's mental health across the UK.
They discovered the devastating impact of male suicide and the deeply rooted stigma that can prevent men from speaking openly about their feelings and asking for help.
Andy’s mum, Elaine Roberts, and his brother-in-law, Luke Ambler, recognised the need for a safe space where men could talk without fear of judgement. Together, they developed the idea for ANDYSMANCLUB – a peer-to-peer support group where men aged 18 and over could come together, share their experiences and support each other through life's challenges.
How ANDYSMANCLUB Started
In mid-2016, nine men gathered in a small room in Halifax, West Yorkshire. Their shared aim was simple: to talk openly about their problems, listen to one another and find support through conversation.
The men who attended that first session recognised something special about the environment they had created. There was a sense of understanding, connection and support that they believed needed to be shared with more men.
That small meeting marked the beginning of a movement that would grow beyond anything its founders could have imagined.
Supporting Men's Mental Health Across the UK
Ten years on, ANDYSMANCLUB has grown from a single group in Halifax into a nationwide men's mental health support network, with more than 360 groups across the UK and online.
Our free-to-attend, peer-to-peer support groups provide men aged 18 and over with an opportunity to talk, listen and connect with others who may be experiencing similar challenges.
There is no pressure to speak, no judgement and no expectation. Men can attend, listen and take things at their own pace.
We believe that talking can make a difference. By creating spaces where men feel comfortable opening up, we want to change the conversation around men's mental health and help prevent suicide.
